Precious Sisters in Christ!
You are all such a blessing to this Body of Faith. Your excitement in memorizing/meditating scripture and sharing the verses/verses that the Father has prompted you to memorize/mediate is inspiring! It is breathtaking and exhilarating! My heart is filled with anticipation to see the verse/verses that you will post as we consider two under our belt and now Scripture Memorization/Meditation #3 for 2011! We are certainly the better for it!
I applaud each of you beautiful women of God! The Father delights in each of you, whether you are memorizing or not! Some are soaking in His Word! Are you pumped yet? See! You can do it! The Father knew you could!
An extra round of applause goes to all you precious girlies who have little ones (all ages included – from newborn to teenagers) who pull on you and depend on you to provide sweet care!
Memorizing is not enough! As Keith shared with us on Sunday, we should be meditating. Let’s add a few more words to enhance this process: chewing (crush, grind), gnawing (chew persistently), consider deliberately (pay attention to), contemplating (think deeply about). After that process, let us allow the words to penetrate and settle deep within our inner person. This takes some work, doesn’t it? But we are enjoying the fruit of that labor!
Just think….the Holy Spirit will bring those verses back to our remembrance as we need them but we must first put those verses in our minds and our hearts! Our minds must be renewed! Once the old, ugly thoughts are removed, they must be replaced with new and beautiful truths!
Consider Paul’s exhortation:
“I appeal to you therefore, sistahs (brothers), by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” Romans 12: 1-2 (ESV)
So Paul tells us that by testing we will be able to discern the good, acceptable and perfect will of God. That is done through transformation that happens by the renewal of our minds.
Again my verse comes from Isaiah! Although the context of my verse is about the LORD’s obedient Servant, Christ, and spoken by the Servant who is a disciple (follower, pupil) of the Lord. The Servant recognizes that His role of being instructed is a gift from “the Sovereign LORD”. The Servant’s divine equipping enabled Him to use His tongue to sustain the weary. The Servant’s ability was enhanced because God awakened Him in the morning and awakened His ear to hear what the Sovereign LORD is saying.
“The Lord GOD has given Me the tongue of disciples, that I may know how to sustain the weary one with a word. He awakens Me morning by morning, He awakens My ear to listen as a disciple.” Isaiah 50:4 (NASB)
Now, let us get on with the posting!
Do it, girlies! Post your verse, reference, translation and your name. Do it!
Love you!
Olda
As I still work on my first 2 verses, I'm adding:
ReplyDeleteIsaiah 55:8 (ESV)
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD.
I've been working on the sermon on the mount with Tish. Just finished up the "salt and light" section. Here's the next:
ReplyDeleteMatt. 5:17-20 (NIV)
The Fulfillment of the Law
17 "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. 19 Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven."
Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing." And they divided up his clothes by casting lots. Luke 23: 34 (NIV)
ReplyDeleteI'm working on forgiveness and I heard this in a sermon a while back at a church I was visiting and it really spoke to me. One of those times that a verse you've heard over and over again can be used by God in a new, fresh way.
"Just as you trusted Christ to save you, trust Him too for each day's troubles; live in vital union with Him. See that you go on growing in the Lord and become strong and vigorous in the truth".

"For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified."
ReplyDeleteRomans 8:29-30 (NIV)

I came home from choir practice this afternoon and went to write something on my calendar, when I saw that I still had the March page up. As I pulled it down from the wall and turned the page, I saw written on April 1 "Post your Scripture memorization!!!" So here I am, a few days late but not a Scripture short. Phillipians 2:3-4 Do nothing from selfish or empty conceit, but with humility of mind let each of you regard one another as more important than himself; do not merely look out for your own personal interest, but also for the interests of others.
ReplyDelete"being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." Philippians 1:6
ReplyDeleteI know this scripture is used quite a bit, but for what I'm going through in my life right now, it certainly is relevant. I need to know that promise that God is still doing something with me, that I have purpose, that good things will still happen, even if I don't expect them to at this point.
Thank you all for being a part of a church that I dearly love and can totally count on in good times and in bad. I love you.
Thank you Olda for being an inspiration in a world that is lacking. I love you too.

Rejoice always;
Pray without ceasing;
in everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
I love these simple, yet powerful verses that reveal God's will for my life. Personally, I'm working on "IN EVERYTHING give thanks".
“I will lift up my eyes to the mountains; From where shall my help come? My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to slip; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel Will neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD is your keeper; The LORD is your shade on your right hand. The sun will not smite you by day, Nor the moon by night. The LORD will protect you from all evil; He will keep your soul. The LORD will guard your going out and your coming in From this time forth and forever.” Psalm 121
ReplyDelete“My soul waits in silence for God only; From Him is my salvation. He only is my rock and my salvation, My stronghold; I shall not be greatly shaken.” Psalm 62:1-2
“When I am afraid, I will put my trust in You. In God, whose word I praise, In God I have put my trust; I shall not be afraid. What can mere man do to me?” Psalm 56:3-4
“From my distress I called upon the LORD; The LORD answered me and set me in a large place. The LORD is for me; I will not fear; What can man do to me?” Psalm 118:5-6
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7
“For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so” Romans 8:26-27 (NASB)

The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, Lord, have NEVER forsaken those who seek you.

Psalms 91:4
ReplyDelete"He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness will be your sheild and rampart." (NIV)-HOlly
ISAIAH 40:29-31
ReplyDeleteHE GIVES POWER TO THE WEAK, AND TO THOSE WHO HAVE NO MIGHT HE INCREASES STRENGTH, EVEN THE YOUTHS SHALL FAINT AND BE WEARY, AND THE YOUNG MEN SHALL UTTERLY FALL, BUT THOSE WHO WAIT ON THE LORD SHALL RENEW THEIR STRENGTH; THEY SHALL MOUNT UP WITH WINGS LIKE EAGLES, THEY SHALL RUN AND NOT BE FAINT.
